The New York Jets will likely be without starting center Nick Mangold when they play the Miami Dolphins this week. He’s officially listed as doubtful for the contest and will need things to change drastically over the next two days for him to play in the game.
Mangold has been out since suffering an ankle issue a few weeks back. He was forced to miss last week’s victory over the Cleveland Browns while his foot was in a walking boot. He hasn’t returned to practice yet, so his absence from the game is widely expected, despite the fact that the Jets have not officially ruled him out for the game yet.
“He’s out of the boot,” head coach Todd Bowles said when asked about Mangold’s potential return. “That’s the best I can tell you. Until they’re running and they’ve got helmets on, I don’t really bother with them.”
In addition to Mangold being declared doubtful, the Jets have a few other significant injuries on the offensive line.
Left tackle Ryan Clady and right tackle Breno Giacomini are both dealing with shoulder injuries and are listed as questionable. Bowles noted through ESPN’s Rich Cimini that Giacomini is more likely to play this week than Clady.
The Jets (3-5) head to Miami to play the Dolphins (3-4) in a battle for the AFC East cellar on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM EST.
