The Los Angeles Rams may be trying to get some dirt on their Week Four opponent this week. According to sources, they claimed former Arizona Cardinals safety Marqui Christian off waivers on Wednesday.
Arizona drafted Christian this year in the fifth round of the draft out of Midwestern State and he spent all offseason with the Cardinals. He was one of the nice surprises of the preseason for them and managed to make the final 53-man roster as a result.
With the Cardinals off to a disappointing 1-2 start though, they’ve been trying to improve their roster and tried out nine players on Tuesday. Since Christian was inactive for all three games so far, his roster spot had to be sacrificed and he was waived.
At this point the Rams don’t necessarily need safety help, but Christian could become a nice player for them with some more time. In 2015 while at Midwestern State he won the Cliff Harris Award, which goes to the Small College Defensive Player of the Year. So he certainly has potential.
That being said, the Rams may not be signing him just because he has potential on the field.
On Sunday at 4:25 PM EST, the Rams just happen to travel to Arizona to play the Cardinals this week. So Christian may be able to provide some inside information after spending the last 5 months with Arizona.
Although asking a rookie, who has yet to play in a NFL regular season game, to give away state secrets may be a bit of a stretch. It’s still worth a shot for Jeff Fisher and the Rams.
