The Seattle Seahawks are apparently getting some help at the running back position. According to NFL Insider Rand Getlin, former Buffalo Bills running back C.J. Spiller signed with the team on Wednesday.
Spiller, a 2012 Pro Bowler, most recently played for the New Orleans Saints. He signed a four-year, $18 million contract with them in 2015 and played the entire 2015 season in New Orleans. He finished the 2015 season with 112 rushing yards on 36 carries and 34 receptions.
The running back was with the Saints all offseason this year and started the season with them, but was a healthy scratch for the Saints first game of the season. A few days after the game, Spiller was released and had not signed with anyone until the Seahawks scooped him up today.
He is certainly most remembered for his time with the Buffalo Bills.
The Bills originally drafted Spiller in the first round (No. 9 overall) of the 2010 draft and he spent the first five years of his career in Buffalo. His best season came in 2012 when he rushed for 1,244 yards and six touchdowns. More impressively, he managed to put up a 6.0 yards-per-carry average that year and has a 4.9 average for his career.
Seattle was in need of a running back because they have been hit hard with injuries this year. Earlier this week it was discovered that starting running back Thomas Rawls would miss a month with a leg fracture. So the signing of Spiller should certainly help.
